Annotated Bibliography Guidelines and Rubric

Assignment

For the Final Research Essay, you will analyze A Doll House using a common theme such as marriage, death, conflict, male/female relationships, reality vs. illusion, freedom/oppression, or justice. The use of three secondary sources is required. For this assignment, write an annotated bibliography for the three secondary sources you will use in the research essay, as well as the primary source. Go to the library databases and find three secondary sources on the topic you are analyzing. Provide an MLA style citation for each source. Under that, write an annotation with the following elements:

  • A summary statement of the source, followed by an in-text, parenthetical citation (author’s name).
  • A statement that explains how the source will be useful in your analysis.
  • A statement about why your reader should trust that this is an academically credible source.

For the primary source, the annotation would simply be: "This is the primary source for the paper." (author's name)

All annotations should be listed in alphabetical order according to the author's last names.

A sample annotated bibliography with two sources follows this page.

Lists three valid, academic secondary sources that pertain to the topic and analysis. Sources derived from library databases. Primary source listed in alphabetical order.

Fully developed summaries and descriptions of sources that offer insight into what the source is about and how it fits into research.

Quotes and sources are properly formatted and cited. The document contains all of the following MLA formatting details: alphabetical order by author, double-spacing, headers with page numbers, hanging indents, correct works cited.

Perfectly polished and clear writing observing correct grammar, effective clear style (concise and formal, use of third person only), with no typos.
