Instructions: • Follow the directions for each problem. • The data set(s) needed are available in Contents page of D2L in the JMP Data Sets module. • Create one file for your submission. • Please type all submissions – no handwritten work will be graded. • Answer all the questions thoroughly and submit the answers to the questions fully, providing all required JMP outputs. Cut and paste the JMP output into Word or other document software to create only one file. o We suggest you save your final submission as a .pdf file to ensure readability in D2L. • Organize your responses with respect to the problems given. • If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask your TA or Dr. Retzer. o In addition, there are a number of JMP help guides in the JMP Help module on D2L. • Working with other students is fine (i.e. helping each other learn/use JMP). However, each student’s submission must be a product of his/her own solutions of the problems. This is to be your own work. Any submissions that are the same will not be graded. • Total possible points: 10. These points will be added directly to your exam 2 grade. Datasets: 1. kc_house_data.JMP available on D2L JMP Data Sets module a. You will need to select a random sample of 1,000 items from this dataset i. TABLES  SUBSET  RANDOM  SAMPLE SIZE:  (select 1000 observations) 1 Part 1: a) (1 pt) Take a look at the JMP data set, kc_house_data.jmp. Describe the population of interest. b) (1 pt) From data set kc_house_data.jmp. Draw a random sample of 1,000 items. i. TABLES  SUBSET  RANDOM  SAMPLE SIZE:  (select 1000 observations) c) (2 pt) Using JMP, construct a histogram of price of houses. Describe the distribution of this variable. Give the shape, center, and spread according to the histogram. Paste the histogram into your submission document. d) (2 pt) Determine the following descriptive statistics from your sample of house prices. Please provide JMP outputs showing these metrics in your submission file. i. mean ii. standard deviation iii. median iv. Q1 the first quartile v. Q3 the third quartile Part 2: a) (2 pt) Using JMP, give the summary statistics (mean, median, mode, quartiles, minimum, maximum, outliers, etc.) for sqft_living of 3-bedroom homes. Hint: you can use Bedrooms as the “by variables” in the dialog box for “Distribution.” Paste all JMP outputs you used to determine summary statistics into your submission file. b) (2 pt) Using JMP, create a boxplot of sqft_living of 2-bedroom houses and a boxplot of sqft_living of 3bedroom houses (plotted on the same grid). Paste your boxplot output into your submission file. a. Describe the similarities/differences of the square foot of the houses compared to number of bedrooms. 2
