Hispanic Culture Essay Spanish 101 100 points Research and write an essay about a way in which Hispanic culture has influenced your culture. Please choose one topic from the following and explain when, how and where the influence occurred. How might the influence develop in the future? Topics: Food Art Language Music Celebrations Fashion Arquitecture Dance Film Sports Guidelines: Type your essay and print it. Also send a copy via e-mail to your teacher. (clobrien@moreheadstate.edu) Use a 1 inch page margin and use the 1.0 line spacing. Use Times New Roman font/ size 11. Your essay should be from one to two pages long but no more than two pages. Give real examples. Cite your sources. Use footnotes and include a bibliography. Do not plagerize! Here are some additional guidelines for improving your essay/composition: Preparation / Research Start your research well before the due date to give your brain time to process what you learn and develop a plan. This will happen in the "between times” and will make your final writing much easier. Before you write, read extensively to learn as much as you can about the topic. Use different kinds of resources: textbooks, lectures, on-line articles, books, podcasts, popular media. Take notes about important ideas, issues or examples while you read. . Be sure to take notes about where you got your ideas so that you can credit the sources when you write. You will probably narrow down your topic but keep track of everything you read anyway. . Introduction Be sure to write about the assigned topic. Tell why you choose the subject or why you think it is important or interesting. Why should other people care about your topic? Give a brief overview (one or two sentences) of what you intend to discuss. Structure Plan your paper before you start. Make an outline to lay out your main points. Plan to write enough to complete your assignment. If you are required to write one page then be sure to plan for that amount of material. Reread your assignment to be sure that you are addressing the topic assigned. This is a good time to narrow down your topic. If your professor has specified a certain type or margin size then set this type and margin before you begin. Content Each paragraph should deal with one topic or claim. For each claim that you make you should back it up with some proof, reasons or examples. Your reasons or examples can be your own thoughtful ideas or you may use ideas from your sources. If your proof, reason or example is from one of your sources then you should cite the source. Avoid repeating yourself or rephrasing simple ideas to pad your paper with additional words. If you copy something word-for-word then indicate that it is a quote. If you start a new train of thought then put it in a different paragraph. Your paragraphs should be in an order that makes sense. For example: least important to most important, older to newer ideas, local to national to international, etc. Or, in an order that helps you to prove your point. Avoid using vocabulary that you do not understand. Look it up! It is better to write simply than to try to use "big words" to sound smarter...especially if you use them incorrectly. . Conclusion You may restate your major points if you want to but also.... Come to a conclusion that pulls your ideas together and make a final point. You might want to point out what you learned from researching and writing the paper. You might want to say how your ideas developed or changed as a result of your research. O Sources Cite your sources in the way that your instructor has assigned. If your instructor did not tell you how to cite your sources then you should ask or use the most current style. Include a list of your sources at the end of the paper. O Spelling & Grammar Run a spell check on your paper. . Read your paper aloud word-for-word before you print it to make sure that what you have written makes sense and sounds natural.

minority group within the United States. Hispanics make up 44% and 65% of the total
populations of California and Miami respectively (krogstad). The community has maintained its
culture and identity and passed it on from one generation to another. They have had a great
influence on American culture in different areas of language, food, music, religion, family, and
media & entertainment. One major area of Hispanic influence on American culture is the film
industry considering that it could not have grown to where it is today without the Hispanic
