Communication Analysis
In his 2014 Howard University Commencement Speech, Sean Combs inspires the Howard
graduates and the faculty by sharing his journey as a former Howard Student and the present
alumnus. He expresses his vulnerability to the audience by discussing the past that was filled
failures that challenged him to seek the current successes. As a speaker, he tactfully creates a
relationship with the audience by the use of a hashtag (#BeClear) relatable personal and life
experiences. By telling the graduates that “today is your day”, Combs establishes a rapport that
instills a spirit of motivation and excitement to the graduates for life after school.
