Literature Connection between Poetry and World War I Enhong Wu April 15th 2018 Introduction World War I resulted in despair and disillusionment. It inspired literary expressions in the post-war and modern era. Dead Man’s Dump and Dulce et Decorum Est are examples of war literary works. Dead Man’s Dump  Isaac Rosenberg expressed his experiences, values, and thoughts through poetry.  The thrill of victory and the dislike of suffering and death  The speaker is traumatized for witnessing the suffering  The essence of war is questionable. Dead Man’s Dump and World War I  Isaac Rosenberg was a soldier in World War I  He died in the war in 1918.  The poem relays the struggles of soldiers in war  The imagery used mostly reflects death or the painful process leading to it Dulce et Decorum Est  Written by Wilfred Owen, a soldier in World War I  Soldiers experience mental and physical agony.  Soldiers face painful and unbearable deaths  War is also not considered honorable but victory is Dulce et Decorum Est and World War I  Owen expresses his experiences as a soldier in World War 1.  His death in the war shows one of the major outcomes as detailed in poem.  The poem shows modern warfare horrors.  The horrors in the war were very traumatizing Main Themes in the Poems War Suffering Death Patriotism Point of View of Writers  The writers were soldiers in war  The pieces are based on their experiences in war  Both writers partly question the significance of war.  They portray those who die in war as patriotic citizens Timelessness o o o o The poems are relevant to the modern-war era.
