RESEARCH PAPER GUIDELINES One research paper is required for this course. The Research Paper is worth a total of 30% of your grade and is due on the assigned date found on your syllabus! The research paper is of your choice as long as it covers the period that is being cover in the course. The paper will be 10 pages in length, double spaced, using 12 point font, submitted online. This should be similar to any paper you would write for other classes – including a title page, an introduction, body of text, a conclusion, and references/bibliography. APA or MLA format is acceptable. Proper Citation of Sources. When writing papers which use information from researched sources, it is necessary to provide complete and correct documentation to show the source of all words and ideas which are not those of the student. Failure to cite a source implies that the information used is the original work of the paper writer – a form of stealing known as “plagiarism.” In the college class, plagiarism is grounds for failure, no matter how well written the rest of the paper may be. Do not use first person or contractions when writing. Also, remember that a successful term paper is not one that is written at the last moment, rather it is one that has been thought out, written, edited, and edited some more (you may consider turning in a rough draft or talking with me prior to the due date if you are unsure about how to approach writing the paper). Make sure you proofread! Nothing detracts from a paper (or grade) worse than a poorly written, mistake-filled paper. When writing this research paper, you should attempt to address the following questions: Comprehensive introduction ( includes who, what, where , and when) with clear thesis statement that answers the question. Why is this person or event important in American History? Does this individual or event represent an aspect that helped shape American History? Would American History be different if not for the actions of this person or the occurrence of the events? (ensure you have a solid conclusion) Students should not use the encyclopedia or the course text book as the primary source of research. Also keep in mind when writing the research paper ,You should not rely solely on the internet for information either; students may use certain web page links such as, The History Channel or Historynet.com to reinforce the research paper.

Introduction
Although the US history is very extensive, one notable person that is still celebrated
today in the US history is President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (Patterson, 1969). He is
remembered for many reforms in the economic and welfare sector, which helped revolutionize
the US economy from a drowning economy into an economic superpower. Franklin Delano
Roosevelt is usually abbreviated as FDR and was the 32 nd president of US (Patterson, 1969). He
is remembered as the longest serving president, having been elected four times into office and
served from March 4 1933 to April 12 1945. He is mainly remembered for pulling the US out of
the Great depression, and helped reduced unemployment numbers during his tenure remarkably.
He was born on January 30, 1982 in Hyde Park, New York and died on April 12, 1945 in Warm
Springs, Georgia. The cause of his death was cerebral hemorrhage. Generally speaking, FDR
was a phenomenal leader and president and is remembered for empowering the US at a time
when the country was exhibiting the Great Depression as well as the onset of the second world
war, events he helped to control and bring the country into perspective (Zelizer, n.d.). He was a
leader of the people and helped many poor individuals achieve status and power in the social and
public circle.
Why FDR is important in US history
FDR is firstly important because he helped to bring together the nation at a time when
everyone was exhibiting hard time economically (Keene, Cornell & O'Donnell, 2017). Most
individuals were jobless and many did not know how to fend for themselves. FDR is known for
using fireside chats through the radio, which helped to give the populace hope and determination
to forge through the dark days. His consistent and persistent address to the nation assured

individuals that he was a part of their struggles, which gave Americans hope and determination.
He thus helped to bring together Americans, a great source of national unity and security during
the dark times (Patterson, 1969).
Apart from that, FDR pioneered the launch of many fiscal policies, which helped to
empower the US economically. The first among these policies is the Reforestation Relief Act of
1933, which helped to employ about 250,000 young men (Bartlett, 2008). This helped to reduce
the unemployment pressure in the nation. By the end of the program in 1941, the program had
helped to employ at least 2 million young people, which helped a lot in reducing the economic
tension among the employed individuals.
Another core policy that FDR implemented is taking the US economy off the gold
standard. This helped more money to be back into the economy, stimulating the economy to
perform better. The gold standard had led to the decline of the dollar value internationally, which
equally had led to the development of the great depression (Keene, Cornell & O'Donnell, 2017).
Release of more funds into the economy helped to stimulate investments and implementation of
economic programs throughout the country.
Another core policy passed during the FDR reign is the Federal Emergency relief Act
(FERA). This program provided grants and relief to economic programs in the states, which
equally stimulated the economy to develop (Bartlett, 2008). The policy was also aligned with the
Agricultural Adjustment Act (AAA), which stimulated agricultural development among peasant
farmers. The program aimed at reducing production of agricultural products, which in turn raised
the demand and value of agr...
