monk seals are predominately
observed in the isolated range of
the Northwest Hawaiian Islands
where they reproduce at six main
sites: Kure Atoll, Midway Atoll,
Pearl and Hermes Reef, Lisianski

Range prior to becoming endangered
• Before the Hawaiian Monk Seals were found
to be endangered in the year 1983, their
population was 1488 (IUCN, 2011). This
