The context of the Text
In this text, Apostle Paul tells the Corinthian church that they have a responsibility to
preach the Gospel and the reward for their faithfulness to the obligation is the satisfaction of
ensuring that the Gospel is free to all (9:18). Before the text, Paul emphasizes that the need for
people to be a living proof of the Gospel by being “under the bondage of all” so that they may
gain more (Nash, 2009). Being free but under the bondage of all makes one gain the prize and
