First, compare and contrast the struggles of the Black community and the transgender community in relation to crime and “justice” and discuss the role of intersectionality. Next, compare and contrast the social movements addressing these issues. Then, consider the role of social media in social change. What are the benefits and drawbacks of social media as a tool for social movements? What are the successes and failures of social movements like #blacklivesmatter? Finally, reflect on the quote that has been our theme for the semester: “No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it.” How can we (as criminal justice scholars) change people’s consciousness and shape social movements? How can you produce or share knowledge that can have an impact on the social problems we have been confronting all semester?

Social Change
One of the main social problems that face American society is achieving equality of the
black community and transgender community. The discrimination against the blacks and
transgender in the community is reflected in criminal and justice filed. In the article
“Transforming History” (2015), one gets to know how transgender, especially from the black
society, are easily arrested because the society sees them as criminals. However, when it comes
to getting justice, nothing much is done. The article also shows a transgender who was raped
while in prison, but when he reported the matters to the administration, he was told that the
blame was his. It means that if a person has a connection between being black and being
transgender will be treated more harshly when it comes to criminal and justice as compared to a
black or a transgender.
