The collaborative model is designed to improve the positive relationship between athletes
and their fans. Also, the model is characterized by the athlete’s application of the principles of

including fans, referees, management, and rival teams. According to Thornton, Champion,
Ruddell, and Ruddell (2011), the collaborative model provides benefits that include the
maintenance of the integrity of the sports and its glory that competition and games are meant to
promote. Additional benefits of the model to the athlete and sports is the respect for the privacy
of the team and the self-esteem of the athletes and other major stakeholders. Finally, the model is
the most appropriate standard for promoting the inherent values of sportsmanship and
competition (pg.8).

Sports ethics is an important discipline for helping players and teams perform at their
