Argumentative Essay Outline INTRODUCTION: a) Hook When I first went to the supermarket to buy food, I was faced a situation that the same types of vegetables and fruits I didn't know which one to buy. I asked my aunt about what kind of goods people are buying. She said that as long as it is not a genetically modified crop, you can buy it. Why do people resist GM food so much? The GM crops were developed to solve the problem of hunger. However, due to the misunderstanding caused by people's fear of the unknown, people have to go to buy the same products as before. b) Summary of the selected article From the website “Purdue University College of Agriculture Magazine ”, in the article “Science vs. Hysteria” (Please help me change to MLA format, I do not know how to revise it) Norman E. Borlaug indicates that in the academic community, the debate on the safety and practicality of GM crops continues to increase. The EU has even had a four-year suspension of the import of genetically modified crops. Therefore, the United States intends to submit to the World Trade Organization the opinion that GM foods cannot be accepted. Although the EU has canceled this agreement, some countries still refuse to introduce genetically modified foods. The people of some African countries are in a disaster of famine. However, government officials in these countries still refuse people to eat GM crops even if they are starving. Norman E. Borlaug believes that the main reason for opposing GM crops is people’s willingness to believe in fear of unknown foods and their unwillingness to believe in science. (Norman E. Borlaug) c) Thesis statement Nonetheless, the genetically modified foods as the best solution to famine and hunger, it is reflected in the commercial value of it can increase the agricultural productivity of developing countries and the commercial value of cheaper than normal food, and it is reflected in the food value of it does not add preservatives and additives. BODY PARAGRAPHS: Body Paragraph # 1 a) Topic Sentence Regarding food value, the government had to try its best to cultivate agricultural products in the famine-hit disaster, although some of the lands were in remote areas. The science and technology of genetically modified foods have their functions of maintaining nutrients and anticorrosion. It can effectively solve the nutrient loss of some foods caused by food transportation and waste due to food rot. b) Example- support Normal foods will add additives and preservatives to change the composition of foods and extend their shelf life. The reason for doing this is to enable food to be transported without being rotted and wasted. However, these added substances contain harmful substances. It is a way for people to damage to health in exchange for temporarily alleviate hunger. Body Paragraph # 2 a) Topic Sentence In terms of business value, the transgenic technology greatly reduces production costs and increases production. It can help the famine-stricken people to get more food with less economic expenditure. b) Example- support The output of agricultural products is the most important point of concern in faminestricken countries. While trying its best to maintain the economic deficit that the country can accept, how to increase the output of crops is the core point of surviving the famine disaster. Body Paragraph # 3 a) Topic Sentence Adding genetically modified crops in crops may cause residual toxicity after people eat them, causing human health to be threatened. b) Example- support Genetically modified crops may affect the efficacy of antibiotics on humans after they enter the human body. Altered genes in crops may lead to new and unknown diseases. In other words, GM foods may pose a potential threat to human health. Although this threat is not great, no one knows that small changes will not become qualitative changes. Body Paragraph # 4 a) Topic Sentence It is the nature of human beings to worry about and fear the unknown. However, we cannot use the thousands of people as experimental mice for genetically modified food because of famine. b) Example- support Although there are no problems with the genetically modified foods that the American people have eaten for several years, they cannot be prevented from happening in the future. The time for introducing GM foods is very short, and the time limit for GM foods currently put on the market cannot be used as a reason to spread the world.
