Read the ethical situations described below ● Michael has taken an online course, and narrowly missed getting a passing grade. To proceed in the degree program he has chosen, he must re-take the course and pay for the course once again. In the new course he resubmits papers he used last time, and using screen shots of quizzes (that pointed out correct answers) from his old class, he inputs answers for the new class quizzes off of the old screen shots. ● Joan is trying to balance family, work and an online graduate program. As much as she planned to study 5 nights a week, she has not planned her time well, so goes into her course on Sunday evenings, barely making time deadlines. One night, she begins a major assignment at 10K30 pm to hand in at 11K59 pm, but finds that the assignment is too large to complete and submit in time. She writes her instructor and tells him that her computer crashed and she had been trying to get it fixed – could she get a weekʼs extension? ● Melanie has a problem with timely submissions of discussions and assignments. She finds out that someone she has taken a few classes with took the class Melanie is in, and “lends” her the papers for the course, which Melanie begins to submit with minor modifications. Her instructor, finding Turnitin scores of over 90%, warns her not to reuse papers, which she denies. Discussion Topics/Question: Picking two out of the three case situations, discuss how the studentʼs behavior related to the school policies you read? In your opinion were they ethical? What do you see as the connection between adhering to policies for ethical behavior as a psychology student and psychologists/ counselors adhering to their Ethics Codes (ACA/APA)? Post your initial reaction to the discussion, and then read and give feedback to your peers on their reactions, decisions, or thought processes. PLEASE REPLY TO AT LEAST TWO OF YOUR PEERS' RESPONSES. Please note that you will not see your peers' posts until you make your initial post to the topic. Additional Information In an effort to continually improve quality and the online course experience, this course has been selected to participate in a slight change to the peer-response requirement. Specifically, for this course only, the expectation for responding to peers for each discussion question will be TWO instead of THREE. Please see the new Discussion RubricPreview the document for specific details on the points earned. Do not assume that other courses have the same requirement. This change is for this course only. Please contact the Department Chair, Dr. John Darland, with any questions or additional feedback. Initial posts are due time-stamped by 11X59pm, Central Time, Wednesday. Two (2) points per day will be deducted for late initial posts, as this has an adverse impact on the quality of the discussion and on the learning community. Posting replies on Thursday and Friday of the week is a good practice; any later than Saturday has an adverse impact on the quality of the learning community. Posting all or the majority of your replies on the last day of the week will result in decreased points due to the fact that you have not been effective in participating in the discussion across the week.
