The main idea behind corporate philanthropy originates from Companies/Organizations
having various responsibilities to maintain. Conversely, these responsibilities can be arranged in
pyramid criterion with basic responsibilities near the bottom. With businesses meeting lowerlevel duties obligating it to the shareholders plus law, it can later move to higher responsibilities
accruing benefit to the larger society. Philanthropy infers to various ways in which Organizations
accrue positive social impact through using finances in generous mannerisms with the final
intention being assisting others within the community. As noted from past reporting from
Corporate Giving Standard Survey of Fortune 500 companies, there is an increasing trend on the
corporate philanthropic moves despite the unpredictable economic conditions.
Various Organizations are coming up with creative ways inclusive of the different noncash ways to give after selecting specific recipients relaying a personal and involved giving
different to broad, voluminous giving. The following are the main types of corporate
philanthropy:
Environmental responsibility whereby an Organization will take deep protection
initiatives of the environment. The ecological sustainability initiatives enacted by businesses
focuses on two main spheres: limitation of pollution and reduction of the green gases. With the
continuum of awareness on environmental issues is rising, companies taking steps in reducing
water, air and land pollution can increase their stance as good Corporate philanthropic entities
while still benefiting the larger society. An example to illustrate this move by Cisco System that
is a multinational Company that took various steps in reducing carbon footprint inclusive of
installing the photovoltaic systems at production facilities platforms. This allows the staff to
work from their communities even those in the remote ones instead of commuting to the office.

Philanthropic initiatives is another type of corporate philanthropy that includes the
donation of money, time or even some resources to various Organizations at national or
international levels. In case of contributions to certain Organizations, the directives are towards a
worthy cause inclusive of human rights, national disaster reliefs and education programs in the
underdeveloped nations. An example to illustrate philanthropic initiative is Microsoft where the
founder known as Bill Gates donated billions to Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This
