The Great Hunger
Also called the Great Famine, it was a period of enormous starvation that led to diseases
outbreak and eventually emigration of Irish people (Mokyr, n.d.). It happened way back from
1845 through 1849. Historically, it all started in September with the infestation of potato crops
with blight disease on the Ireland farms. All potato crops died, leaving the Irish people starving
because the crop was their staple food. This forced them to emigrate to other parts of the world
including America.
The Great Exhibition
It is the first global exhibition that involved the display of manufactured goods. The
exhibition took place in 1851 under the organization of Price Albert (Head of Society Arts) and
Henry Cole (Victoria and Albert Museum, 2016). The historical context here is that the
exhibition was marked by the beginning of industrial revolution. Hence, the event took place in
Crystal Place, a vast structure built with glass and iron in Hyde Park in London, purposefully
constructed for the Great Exhibition.
Otto Von Bismarck
Eduard Leopold, also known as Otto von Bismarck, was German leader, Price of
Bismarck. He was born in April 1815 before ruling Prussia and later Germany from 1862
through 1890. Historically, he is known for his speech about “Blood and Iron” that indicated his
plan to unify Germany. Otto Von Bismarck is, thus, famous and a national figure in Germany for
controlling Prussia and all of its territories before declaring Germany as one empire in 1871.

The Trench Warfare
It is a form of war that typically related to the World War I where trenches were used in
the fight. It was used during the World War I in the period between 1914 and 1918. Therefore,
the historical context of Trench Warfare is the First World War. The war happened in the
Western Front where France started building the trenches that connected the North Sea through
Belgium. First used in 1914, the trenches were used as protection sites by France and Belgium
soldiers during the World War I.
Adolf Hitler
He was a German politician, born in Braunau, Austria on 20th April 1889. He was a Nazi
party leader in the period 1934-45. As a dictator, he introduced fascist policies that triggered
World II that led to deaths of millions of people. The historical context of Hitler is the dictatorial
actions he took in his political life from 1934 through 1945.
The Yalta Conference
It is historical wartime meeting, the second one that involved Franklin D Roosevelt (U.S
president), Winston Churchill (British Prime Minister), and Joseph Stalin (Soviet Premier) who
met to negotiate about ending the World War II (A&E Television Networks, LLC, 2018). This
