Each feedback post needs to be 400 words or more, and should include information that helps to
enhance the discussion on the topic. Do not include statements such as great work, or excellent
post. Try to include info that is challenging and respectful and that will stimulate debate. Also, be
mindful of including references and citations whenever citing facts to support your position. APA 6th

POST 1
As I was thinking about what kind of research question I want to pose, I started to think
about a paper I did last session based on mitigation. In Emergency Management, a large
component of what we try to do is mitigate risk and disaster which usually results in creating
and/or building resilience within a community. Because resiliency is such a broad topic
especially when we look at it from a community standpoint, I know I need to focus in on a
singular question within my topic of interest. In the articles I chose, I found they all focus on
how to sustain or build resiliency after a disaster.
One of the major natural disasters we face in the United States is Hurricanes. After
Hurricane Katrina, the notion of creating resilient communities became a priority. (Berke &
Campanella, 2006) With every new disaster the amount of lessons we take away and try to
improve on are boundless. One thing that always sticks out however, is the need for residents in
a community to create resiliency within their households. When resiliency is not present it can
lead to mental health problems that can occur after a disaster and many of these affects can linger
on long after the disaster has happened. (Hackbarth, Pavkov, & Wetchler, 2012) This can cause
additional stress and financial instability as they try to recover from their loss.
We also see that where disaster strikes there will be people who are displaced from their
homes. How do these victims of tragedy create resiliency while they may have lost everything?
According to Barnes (2006), shelters can play a role in creating a feeling of home, safety, and
comfort. Once again, we continue to look at how our ability to create an atmosphere for
continued resiliency affects those who are displaced and affected by a disaster.
As always in Emergency Management we rely on the families in our community to have
some amount of resiliency. Can we expect them to know how to create resiliency if we are not
providing the education and opportunities for them to learn? I am interested in researching how
we can create resiliency in communities prior to disasters occurring. Something important to note
is that generally those who are disadvantaged, economically, tend to suffer the most. This is
something that has stood out no matter the disaster and is a topic I would like to focus on.
Research question: How can we assist those who are economically disadvantaged to create
resiliency before a disaster occurs?
I am open to any comments or suggestions on how to make this better and more concise.
POST 2
I had so many interests when that I was considering doing a paper on such as child
exploitation and criminal justice system. I like to write about things that I have
experienced and can relate to. As I was contemplating something happened and right
then I had my topic. I received a notice that my credit card had been used to purchase
several items. I had just become a victim of credit card fraud. Someone had gotten my
information of this website that I purchased some items on. It hit me that I could do
research on cybercrime. Cybercrime such as scams, online theft, hacking, etc. has
been on the rise due to the advancement of technology (Ismail, 2017). So, my proposal
is to find out what is being done to combat this problem. The research will talk about the
increase in different crimes happening on the internet and how cybersecurity and other
programs with the government are keeping up with the technology to try and combat the
criminals in the cyber world. Coming up with a topic was not hard and at all. There was
so much information out there on it, even with the peer-reviewed articles. I found related
articles in the news and different crimes on websites that pertain to this information, so
that was not hard to find. Because of all the information related to this subject, I did not
have to alter my proposal.
When going through the library and the journal database, I came across plenty of
articles and had no difficulty finding them. One article that I found from Academic
Search Premier was called Fighting Crime after United States v. Jones (Gray, Citron &
Rinehart, 2013). Until this case privacy and crimes on the internet were not being taken
seriously as it is now. Even certain actions on the internet, such as harassment and
bullying, was not considered a crime until the Justices in the case made it known that is
was. This is one of the articles that I want to use so that it would be known what all
constitutes cybercrime.
The other articles I found focused on why cybercrime was rising and what the
government was doing to stop the crime level on the web. The article that deals with the
increasing is about data theft. That is what I experienced this week. Criminals hack into
systems and steal data which includes personal information including your bank
account and credit card numbers (Clough, 2011). This article outlines how it has been
happening and why it is continuing to increase. The next article talks about the internet
being a being a breeding ground for criminals and even the government and its
prevention techniques (Wall, 2015). I know I will have to go further into the research but
as a proposal, this is what I came up with so far.
