1. Internet online courses as compared to traditional face to
face courses
2. Education during a time of an economic downturn
3. Political views of your classmates and attitudes toward
abortion, interracial marriage and gay marriage
4. Religious views of your classmates and attitudes toward
divorce, abortion and gay marriage
5. Another topic that you discuss with me. This can be very
inventive and appropriate. I've allowed topics on social
networking, spending habits, current issues and more.
6. The topic MUST be something that you can reasonably
expect your classmates to have some knowledge about
and are able to answer from a perception perspective.
Student
Resources
You will:
1. Develop a hypothesis for your study. It will be something
like: Among students enrolled in SS3375 T5 2017, most
undergraduates report they earn higher scores in a
traditional, face to face classroom as compared to online
courses.
2. Your hypothesis must be presented in the discussion
forum dedicated to review of hypotheses. 3. You will then
develop your survey questions. You need to post these in
the discussion forum for my review and approval.
3. I want to see your survey questions after I review and
approve your hypothesis.
4. Remember that you survey questions should include basic
demographic information (age, gender, , etc.).
5. Your survey questions will then focus on a series of
questions about your topic choice as compared to
traditional learning. Survey questions will be placed on a
Likert-type scale, with rating of 1-5, or something similar.
6. Your survey questions MUST address your hypothesis
7. For instance, if you make this survey statement: My
grades in online courses tend to be lower than in
traditional classrooms, then your respondents would be
able to select "Strongly Agree,” “Agree," "Neutral,"
“Disagree,” or “Strongly Disagree."
8. You are going to go visit a site called Survey Monkey and
there, for 30 days, you can have a free trial, using the
online survey preparation and collection tools

Conclusions - was your hypothesis supported or rejected
(NOT PROVEN OR DISPROVEN!!!)
NOTE:
Survey Monkey may no longer providing free charts/graphs,
etc., I do NOT want you to pay for an upgrade to get those.
If you can create your charts with Excel or Microsoft Word,
please do that.
If you really, really can't figure out how to make charts with
Excel, Microsoft Word, or even OpenOffice.org, then I will not
deduct points.
Give it a good try.
And look at this free site. Makes nice graphs... for kids, but
will work for you.

And this has directions if you need them (to accompany the
site):

9. When you have your survey ready to send out, you will
POST link to your classmates in CJ3375 in the POST
YOUR LINK category in the discussion forum. You will
also see links from your classmates and you must respond
to their surveys.
10. Once all of your survey data is collected, you will analyze
it. You should be able to make assumptions based on the
information. You might find, for instance, that males
report they do better in online learning as compared to
females. Be sure to look at the example papers posted in
the Discussion Forum.
11. You will create charts/graphs to pictorially show your
results (see below for tips).

You will go this web site. Survey Monkey above.
You will create a basic account (no payment from you)
Student
Resources
You will select to create a new survey
You will choose from the selections of types of questions to
create
For instance, to get gender results, you might pull down from
the dropdown menu a multiple-choice type question that
allows only ONE answer. You would then create a statement
like: I am a female undergraduate student. In the answer area,
you would put “Yes” and “No.” The survey will then generate
that question once you hit 'save changes.
You will then see that you can add a question.
For a question with a rating scale (ordinal data), you might
make a statement like: My grades are higher in online classes
than in traditional classes. From the drop-down menu of
question types, you would choose a "rating scale" type
question. In the answer area, you would provide: Strongly
agree, Agree, Neutral, Disagree, Strongly Disagree.
NOW.. in the free Survey Monkey, you can only ask TEN (10)
questions, so you need to be very precise in what information
you are seeking.
We'll get started by working on hypotheses, and you can go
take a look at Survey Monkey to get a sense of how it works.
Once you have your responses, you will analyze the data and
