Impacts of Social Media on Friendship
In today’s world, the use of social media platforms is rampant among friends. The social
media platforms are used in different ways in our lives. Some of the social media platforms
include Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, IMO, Instagram, Linkedin, Wechat and among others.
Social media has influenced the modes of communications in our society. These platforms have
connected people all over the world through networking blogs. Journalists use social media
platforms to update individuals on the current news; friends use the platforms to message each
other and companies use the social media as their advertising tool to market their products and
services. This paper focuses on impacts of social media platforms on friendships.
The social media platforms have hindered my face to face interactions, especially when
interacting with my friends. Most of my friends are addicted to their phones, tablets, and
computers as most of their time are spent on Facebook, Twitter, and Snapshot while refreshing
their accounts for new updates thus they may lack time to interact with me face to face.
We are always limiting our time on real friends and families instead opt to chat with ‘fake
friends’ who are strangers on social media platforms thus creating an imaginary world of nonexisting relationships in our lives. We share our personal and private life with friends in online
platforms. In the schools, our relationships are maintained in social networking. Majority of us
have lost self-esteem and confidence in interacting with others on face to face basis. Students at
