massive destructions and deaths, it has brought about numerous social changes across the world.
While the 21st century has witnessed less broad wars, Wasserman (1989) notes that social
changes were broader and deeper when war affected entire societies. The Great War, commonly
referred to as World War 1 has been credited to a significant number of social progress that has
occurred in the past in the US and across the globe. Darden (1988) notes that while war brings
about destruction and death and should be avoided at all cost, it brings about peace and progress.
Through war, political and social groupings tend to emerge which have been credited for human
progress in almost every part of the world. While World War 1 ended in 1918, the US had
experienced significant social progress, some of which continue to be felt to date.
