Intellectual property law secures and enforces legal rights to designs, artistic works, and
inventions. The law protects individuals who own property and real estate. The law also protects
the exclusive control of assets which are not tangible (Bently, & Sherman, 2014). The law aims at
giving incentive to individuals to come up with creative works that are helpful to the society by
making sure they can benefit from their works without being misappropriated by other individuals.
Patents allow the investors to use their product in the market or to benefit from the transfer
of the right to another person. Patent rights are valid for up to two decades depending on the type
of invention. The commodities that qualify include new machines, goods manufactured and
technological improvements (Bently, & Sherman, 2014). There are instances where the patent
invention can be denied such as if the invention has an obvious design, offensive, or not useful.
