The Local Police
The police enforce local, state and federal laws. They are the regular police that people
see every day on the streets performing duties such as traffic control. The local agencies have a
hiring process that seeks to provide officers who can serve their respective communities. They
require people who are of 21 years and above. The essential minimum education qualification at
this level is a high school diploma, however, having a college degree would be acceptable too.
The potential candidates have to pass written and physical tests. For the training, the police
officers attend the police academy from 12 weeks and above where they are trained on various
aspects of their job such as firearms, first aid, traffic control, and self-defense. There are
classroom sessions where they are taught on civil rights, local and state laws and the constitution
and its laws.
The State Police
The state agencies enforce the state laws in each of their individual states’ jurisdiction.
They are also known as state troopers or highway patrol officers. The hiring criteria require that
one be a U.S citizen. A valid driver’s license, but mostly, an in-state driver’s license and a clean
history with no priors of crimes such as domestic violence or any felony convictions. The
