Oman – Haya Water Company
6.1 Overview
The study of Haya is to design, build and operate a Constructed Wetland (Reed Bed System) in
Quriyat within a duration of two months from 19th of January to 19th of March 2017. This chapter will
discuss the process description and design criteria so as to obtain the results and to guarantee the highperformance efficiency leading to the production of high quality treated effluent from the Reed Bed. It
also shows the comparison between the obtained results and the regulations to be in compliance with the
Ministerial Decision 145/1993 Class A Standards for irrigation purposes.
The main aim of the study is to evaluate the efficiency of the reed bed treatment system in an
alternative sustainable treatment solution within Haya water. To date, Haya has implemented four types
of technology which are the conventional activated sludge, membrane system, sequencing batch reactors
(SBR), and the Membrane bioreactor (MBR). The constructed wetland is the fifth technology to be
