Comprehensive Primary Health Care in Uganda.
Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC) refers to primary health care given to an
individual. Besides, it entails a holistic approach that is inclusive of all the preventive as well as
a curative measures. The research paper will consider CPHC in Uganda. Uganda is a nation in
Africa. It is located in the East of the continent and forms the more significant part of the
developing nations cluster. It is worth noting that in most developing nations, Primary Health
Care (PHC), as a part of healthcare in these nations is not well developed. The aspect is due to
the fact that most of these countries are in abject poverty, have impassable roads, and the
majority of their population live under the poverty line of about a dollar in a day. In other words,
health care in such nations is defined as crippled. Uganda is a developing nation, its primary
health care to lacks the institutional capacity to stand on its own. The provisions of healthcare in
the country are faced with many obstacles that prevent its establishment. The paper will,
therefore, explore the relevance as well as the role of Comprehensive Primary Health Care. The
article will also explore some of the future potentials of CPHC that can be used to approach the
healthcare system in the nation.
Uganda is facing a double-edged crisis in matters related to her healthcare. The
workforce of her healthcare system is rapidly depleting as most of the systems are weak, lack
precision and they are fragile altogether. The aspect is due to the fact that the development of
healthcare in the nation is dismal. Recent statistics indicate that at least six children die before
they attain an age of five years. Most of these kids die from diseases that are preventable using
vaccines. Besides, at least a woman dies in the nation following complication in pregnancy or
delivery issues. The aspect indicates that the nature of the health care system needs to be
addressed to prevent such mortality rates. International, as well as experienced researchers, have

suggested that the health care system of developing nations needs to embrace the comprehensive
care in their attempt of alleviating the issues affecting them. Besides, the society, as well as the
governing bodies, need to comprehend the importance of CPHC in a nation. The aspect will be
critical in the sense that all the individual will support the system entirely and use all the
necessary measures to improve the health care system of the nation (Hanlon et al 2014).
Role and Relevance
CPHC, as indicated above, refers to a broad perspective of approaching the healthcare
given to individuals. The care encompasses the doctors, the health care workers as well as the
nurses. In other words, the care includes all the stakeholders who are active in ensuring that a
society or rather a nation is safe in term of receiving better healthcare. The system thus involves
the programs aimed at preventing the spread of certain diseases, promoting health as well as
rehabilitation. CPHC also encompasses public health as well as all the advocacies related to
health issues. Disease prevention programs include the antenatal care, screening, immunization,
preventing complications of chronic conditions as well as all other measures aimed at improving
one`s health.
CPHC is Cost Effective.
The government of Uganda spends most of its national revenue in funding her healthcare
system. However, the funding is never enough as many citizens of the nation are more
impoverished and can`t access better healthcare. Most of the Ugandans don`t receive the
necessary healthcare early enough to prevent them from suffering from serious illness. In most
cases, the burden of acute as well as fatal conditions is carried by communities as well as
families who end up hurting emotionally, physically as well as financially. In the long run, the

budget of these severe conditions is carried by the entire nation as most of the revenue are
channeled to the healthcare system. The funds that could have been directed to other
developmental projects are instead used to cater for the well-being of the citizens. However,
CPHC aims at advocating the necessary prevention programs that will help the save from such
unnecessary financial budgets. In other words, CPHC will enable the nation to come up with the
required measures that will be critical in helping the country avoid budges of diseases that are
preventable. The care will ensure that conditions such as measles, polio as well as other states
that are preventable...
