Description

Create a TED talk transcript of 2000 - 2500 words. So your transcript should aim for around 2000 - 2500 words. It's certainly okay if you want to go over that, but make sure you're interesting if you do.

Topic: Technology and Human Vulnerability.

For this project, I would like to talk about how technology is now replacing the human minds. I find that with emerging technologies, humans are heavily dependent on machines to do basic things in life. In the past, Humans were considered unique and distinct because of their intellect and emotions, but currently, technology seems to be taking over the minds of humans. With that reason, I would like to analyze this in relation to the future. Will the world/businesses get to the extent where robots will become managers to take over the human jobs or will robots now begin to fire/hire humans? The big question is in the event we can relate to machines as psychological beings, do we have an ethical duty to them? How secure are humans with these technologies?

In the last 50 years technology seemed to have known its place among us. We all spend a
good amount of time with technology, used telephone, flew on airplane, cooked with micro wave
and drove to work. But even a few years ago technology seemed a servant, external. Today, what
is so interesting is not only how technology is very common but also its intimacy.
On the internet we have seen people spending hours living parallel lives by creating
imagery identity in the virtual worlds. We have seen children having unbreakable bonds with
their artificial pets that asks for their affection and attention. A new generation dwell on wearable
computing, finding it natural to see and understand life through screen monitors. Film maker
reflect on our anxiety on these developed technology and imminent and present. In The Matrix
the Wachowski brother shows future in which people are connected with virtual reality game
(Pasulka, 2005). In AI (Steven Spielberg’s): artificial intelligence there is a woman who
struggles with love for a robot child named David who is programmed to love her.
Today we are not yet faced with parallel universe as developed as the matrix or humanoid
robot that demand our love and affection (Breazeal, 2003). Yet the virtual reality that exists
today is preoccupying us. In the chat room people seem to blur the boundaries between the
offline and the online lives, this gives an indication that there will be development of robots that
seem to experience and express moods and feelings. What will it mean to people when their
health care attendant is a robot nurse? Or when a person daily occupation will be a robot dog.
We all need to take a closer look at technology both as business people and consumers and
assess its psychological impact today and the innovation and inventions that are yet to come.

In fact the smartest people in the technological field are busy coming up with the
advancement technology. Cal Tech and MIT, who are provider of the much needed academic
starting resources for today’s high tech companies, are now conducting research on what
technology does to us as well as what technology does for us. To investigate this questions
further. HBR senior editor Daniel L Coutu met with the Abby Rockefeller Mauze in the program
of science, Sherry Turkle and the society at the MIT. Sherry Turkle is one of the most considered
scholar to be an expert in the field of how technology influence our lives and our human identity.
Not many people are able to understand the connection between the human mind and
machine when they are put together (Minsky, 2007). Trained as a ps...
