The central message for this film is about how John Scott struggles with the problem of
Acrophobia, and how he finally manages to overcome it. The film Vertigo revolves around the
actor John Scottie, and how his experience as a detective shaped his future life. At the beginning
of the Film, we witness John and his colleague engage a criminal in a running battle. Sadly, John
slides when trying to climb over a rooftop barrier. His colleague slides, and fall to death when
attempting to rescue him from the danger (00:03:30-00:03:49). This incidence caused him to
develop vertigo, and fear of heights. As the film progresses, his fear of heights continues
deteriorating, due to the various occasions that remind him of the death of his colleague. For
instance, when Madeleine jumps from the rooftop and dies, John is devastated, and his fear of
heights keep growing. This fear persists, till the end of the film, where he finally manages to
overcome it, when he climbs to the top of the bell tower to embrace Judy who falls down and
dies in the process.
