The Three most important points to include in a public nutrition program should be; food choices, portion control, and physical activity. Food is an important basic need to sustain life, we need protein for muscle growth, calcium for bone health, and water to maintain hydration. In moderation a healthy weight can be maintained when the food we ingest is controlled. A healthy weight can decrease the risk for developing heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke. (Powell-Wiley, 2012). Healthy eating habits and nutrition should start at a young age as this will lay a life long foundation for well-being which will decrease cost of expensive medical care later in life and prevent deadly disease related to obesity.(Mistry, et. al., 2012).
