People of Chinese heritage are partly based on the naturalistic system of belief
that decrees that for the human body to function optimally, it must be tied to the natural
environment. In this respect, to avoid illnesses, the society members have to observe a
strict diet and activity routine (humoral system) and vitalism (Wang, & Wang, 2016). The
people in this heritage believe that failure to ingest some type of foods will ultimately
lead to diseases and discomfort. The people also believe that diseases occur due to
imbalances in two types of energies (‘yi’ and ‘yang’). An imbalance of the energy will
inevitably lead to diseases. The implication is that the Chinese might not fully trust
evidence-based care as it does not acknowledge the influence of the natural
environment towards individual health status.
The Chinese, by virtue of their cultural orientation, stigmatize some illnesses. For
