❖ Step-by-Step Instructions: 1. Article Search: For each real-world application (total of 3), find and secure an electronic copy (Word, pdf) of a factual news article (i.e., newspaper article, online news briefing, or magazine article) that directly relates to the specific concept/issue that is “fair game” (see listing below for specific concepts/issues). This news article must have been published between 2000 and present. Internet blogs and other types of online venues that publish opinion pieces are not acceptable. Use the library databases or Internet resources to identify an article. When you submit your application portfolio, you are required to submit (by attaching) the 3 news articles you used to complete your application portfolio. 2. Reserve Article: For each of the 3 real-world applications, no article overlap between students is permitted, meaning, for each of the 3 real-world applications, each student must secure a unique article (i.e., an article with a unique title and author) that no other student in the class has secured. To ensure no article overlap occurs, Dr. Howell will post and continually maintain and update an article reservation listing on Blackboard for each of the 3 applications. a. Before you begin your article search for a given real-world application, check the relevant article reservation listing on Blackboard to ensure that you do not waste time/effort identifying and attempting to reserve an article that another student has already reserved. b. By the date/time deadlines laid out below for each specific real-world application, you are required to send a message to Dr. Howell using the Blackboard Message System in Blackboard to request to reserve the article for use. In this message request, identify: (1) the name of the article that you are interested in reserving; (2) the author(s) of the article that you are interested in reserving; and (3) the specific real- world application (Application #1, #2, #3) you would like to reserve the article for. PLEASE NOTE: Any real-world application in a given portfolio that is based on an article that was not reserved will NOT be graded. 2. Write-Up: For each real-world application, type an essay-style write-up that is at least 1 complete/full page in length, free of grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors, and that is formatted in APA (least 3 pages of text. These 3 pages of text does not include a required title page and a required reference page. The APA-formatted reference page must reference all sources (e.g., textbook, the article in question) used and cited in the write-up. For each real-world application (Application #1, #2, #3), use your own words to address the following content directive:, the application 1. A. Using your own words, briefly summarize the event/behavior/main issue described in the article; and B. Describe how, exactly, the event/behavior/issue relates to the specific topic at hand (see listing of specified topics below). This description will require you to link evidence (facts, illustrations, details) in the article to the particular topic assigned to be exemplified/illustrated.
