Monsters have become an area of fascination in the world today. They are embedded in our
narratives, comics, film productions and so forth. Schmid, an associate professor asserts that we
are attracted to monster narratives because they are essential in helping us deal with our anxieties
and share experiences in all arenas of life ranging from economic, political, war, climatic and all
other disasters. Monsters and the tales tell they narrate tells us certain truths such as evil is
everywhere, not to trust everyone, death is coming, future holds troubles and so forth. Therefore
in reviewing this aspect, we get to see the truth of society and the fears we hold.
Mittman and Dendle (2012) article titled “The Ashgate Research Companion to Monsters and
the Monstrous” delves into the field on monsters and monstrosity seeking to add merit to the
field and silence the voices of critics who have ridiculed it. The article is meant to recognize and
laud the efforts of scholars who have been interested in building up the field through various
studies in the face of opposition.
Through a review of the development of the field in the last three decades, the article recognizes
the growth that it has undergone looking at the various perspectives which exists ranging from
psychological perspectives, historical perspectives and theoretical perspectives, through this
article, Mittman and Dendle aims to create a research companion in the study on monstrosity.
The article offers a depth of information covering a long historical period from approximately
2000 BCE to the current period. The article is a very important in the tool in the study of
monsters since it gives a variety covering different geographical areas from the Americas, Asia
and even Europe
In their article on “Introduction to monsters,” Shaeffer and Spencer (2018), review the role
monsters have in our lives. By reviewing the current scene, these scholars identify how monsters
have invaded every area of our lives through popular film. They allude to different shows which

of monsters. The scholars assert that monsters are the depiction of our fears and anxieties and
they help us to convey the terrors we experience clearly through the graphics. They represent the
