Description

Objective: To experience photography in a Gallery setting. To help in improving your ability to discuss and critique photographic images.

Procedure: From the list provided (here) for this gallery review present a 3 to 5 page report discussing the work you experienced at an on the ground Photography Gallery. For this paper, be sure to include: who; what; where; when; why and how. Describe the pieces in the show as a whole and describe 2-3 images in detail. Use the principles of D.I.E.T. In your report

For individual images include such things as its size, color, and type of print. Then describe the subject of the picture. Is there a feeling of motion (dynamic or static balance)? Is it composed well? What is it about? What is the photographer trying to say? What does it mean?

If it is a group show describe the overall feel and whether it works as a whole presentation. Describe the Gallery and did you think the ‘installation’ of the photographs was done well.

Remember no copy and pasting from the internet. If you quote something include attribution (footnotes). If there is a website for the show, please include a link at the end of the report.

Note:

DO NOT go to the same gallery that you wrote about on Gallery Review #1.

This must be a Photographic exhibition, NO other forms of ART WORK.

If you deviate from the list of galleries, be sure to let your instructor know before you go to the gallery.

Avoid "Galleries" in malls. We are looking for classic galleries and museums.

If you quote anything from the show it's self or the website of the gallery you must attribute the source of that quote, if not you will be penalized for plagiarism.

What to turn in:

  • 3 to 5 page report in Canvas in the Vericite upload location. This must be in PDF format.
  • In the second Assinment drop of this assignment Include a self-portrait of yourself outside of the gallery. (No photos of images in the show as this might get you thrown out of the gallery or museum). Self portrait must be submitted separately as the Vericite feature does not like images in the PDFs.
  • Ticket stub if a ticket was purchased. This can be also uploaded with the self-portrait or in lieu of the self portrait.

"Here is everything You need to know about the assignment follow it completely!! I also provided a pdf that also describes the procedure of the assignment if needed. Adding on I provided a link of the photographic gallery that the review has to be on. All info and pictues of the gallery is on the link"

Introduction

Photographs awaken nostalgia, allow the photographer to showcase interests, personal
style, adventures, and relationships. The photographic exhibition serves as a chronicle of our
experiences, who we were, what we have done, and where we have been. They tell the unspoken
stories. This report explores a gallery review, with the purpose of experiencing photography in a
gallery setting. The reviewed photographic exhibition is collected from the J. Paul Getty Museum,
and it includes posed portraits, untitled snapshots, and physiognomic studies, unsuspecting
expressions that offers a variety of human stories that photographs and facial countenances can
tell.
The Muscle of Sadness
The muscle of sadness is a black and white depressive albumen silver print glass negative
with dimensions of 28.2 × 20.4 cm1. The subject of the image is a wrinkled human face as a result
of aging or facial expressions. The wrinkles on the subject’s face are in the form of ridges, folds,
and creases. The wrinkles could also be a result of the facial expression of frowning as the subject
seems to be sad. The feeling of the motion in the image is a dynamic balance because one half of
left/right, top/bottom, and the diagonal split of the image is identical to the other.
Composition entails how a photographer arranges the visual elements in the photograph.
Excellent composition is attributed to the powerful, appealing, and compelling images2. When the
frame of this image is divided horizontally and vertically according to the rules of thirds, the most
alluring part is the human face that falls at one of the points where the lines intersect. Balance is
achieved because the elements of the photograph-lines, colors, space, and objects are distributed

in an equally weighted manner. When a viewer looks at each part, he or she holds interest and
becomes engaged. Therefore, this photograph is composed well. The photographer, GuillaumeBenjamin Duchenne de Boulogne was trying to pass a message of sadness or suffering to the
viewers. Titled as the Muscle of Sadness this photograph tells the viewer that the subject is
suffering as a result of the aging process, sickness or poverty. Nonetheless, it can be concretely
concluded that frowning as a result of illness is the key theme in the image. The background color;
black and white also indicates that the life of the subject is ...
