When the word racism is mentioned, many people tend to generalize that it is all about
color. Well there is more than meets the eye. Better said, the devil lies in the details. Racism
refers to having a belief on inherent differences. Believing that people are different based on
their color, social-stratification where they come from, morality, gender among other differences
and these differences bring about or determine ones cultural or individual achievements, Alvarez,
(2009). Basically, the concept of racism lies on the doctrines of discriminating other members of
society based on the above mention factors.
What exactly does it mean to be a member of a particular race or class? People who
practice racism knowingly or unknowingly tend to have a belief that what they are is basically
superior to what other peoples are or engage in. it could be in terms of social class, religion and
its doctrines, living in a more healthier environment where those considered as visible minorities
cannot afford, just to mention a few differences. Being a member of a particular race means that
one segregates other members of the society because they view them as lesser beings. For
instance, an individual living in urban setting where they can afford clean and healthy water,
housing, and advanced medication may view those that live in rural settings as min...
