Salient features
Based on the scenario presented, the salient features include the health issue affecting the
patient and the decision made by the team involved in deciding the fit candidates for kidney
transplant. The patient requires the transplant of his kidney so that he can have a better life. The
team disapproves him for the candidacy of the transplant since he has a history of alcoholism and
drug abuse. The best way to face the client and give him the information remains a challenge
since there is the expectation that he will become angry. Gathering the right words to use when
informing the patient becomes the main focus to ensure that he will take it in a positive way.
Based on the fact that he requires the transplant just like any other patient, informing him of the
causes for disqualification becomes the main challenge.
Letter to the client
Dear Sir,
RE: KIDNEY TRANSPLANT
After undertaking the various processes required in the kidney transplant activity, the
team in charge has come to a conclusion. The number of patients in need of kidney transplant is
large and there was the need to make a decision for the qualified candidates. I am sorry to inform
you that the team disqualified you for the kidney transplant based on your history of alcoholism
and substance abuse. I would like you to understand that the team in charge of making the
decision has to screen each of the patients and decide on whom to offer the transplants. Since the
healthcare facility does not have enough kidneys for transplant to all patients, there is the need to

decide on the patients who best fit the procedure. However, this does not mean that you will
never get a transplant at our facility in future. I hope you understand and accept the decision
made by the team in charge.
