Films in the same genre tend to exhibit similarities and differences. Most of the aspects
used to rate the success of a film become effective only after making a comparison. Casablanca
and Gone with the wind are two films which were created during a time of war but fall under the
romance genre. The two films have differences and similarities in the way in which they express
different ideas. Casablanca is a classic Hollywood film and was released in 1942. The film was
successful despite the fear by the Warner brothers that it would not receive much recognition as
other films already in the market. Gone with the wind was released in the 1930s and received
recognition as well from the audience. The paper compares the two films; Casablanca and Gone
with the wind, with the aim of looking into some of the aspects which have made the two
successful in the market.
Story essential
The film Casablanca was created during the Second World War and focused on
explaining the importance of the city to the lives of the soldiers who ran for their lives when they
were in danger. During the WWII, most of the people living in Europe looked for all means
possible to escape to other countries including America and Portugal. Casablanca, a city in the
French ruled Morocco was the main port and exit point for these people. The film revolves
around the lives of the refugees and the success of the city of Casablanca. Gone with the wind
was also created during the war and revolved around the life of one character Scarlett whose
husband Charles Hamilton died in the war short after marrying her (YukiToka2DA, Jan 22,
2017). Some of the characters free from their homes due to the Confederates retreat. Casablanca

and Gone with the wind portray hard times faced by the different characters as they look for
peace.
Dialogue
In Casablanca, the characters maintain dialogue which each other where they tried to
express the different challenges which they faced in their daily lives. The time during which the
film was created exhibited many challenges associated with the way and as people freed for their
lives, they would interact (Yusdaniar, March 12, 2017). Also, the soldiers communicate with
each other where they use the military language while the civilians apply their language to
express their fears and worries. Besides the fears and challenges of life, the characters also
recognize the impact of love where two of the characters were involved in a love triangle. In
Gone with the wind, the characters also engage in dialogue that aims at making them come to
conclusions on how to carry on with their lives. The dialogue flows smoothly and connects one
scene to the other. The flow ensures that the film delivers information intended for the audience.
