The Future of Music Retail
Music has always been a part of human existence. Almost every aspect of human history
has a melody attached to it. Music has evolved from an appreciated form of art to one of the most
lucrative business in the world. Music has grown into a product, one that needs time to
manufacture and refine. As such, the process of packaging and selling music, from a business
perspective has undergone transformations, more so in the late 20th Century. The different retail
models of business work for different players in the music business, consumers and content
creators.

The Best Model for Consumers
The growth and evolution of music in the late 20th Century might be solely because of
the retail process of the same, the physical retail model. This model favored heavily the
consumer. It created a buzz an excitement if you will, for the music business. Physical copies
offered a fanatic approach to consuming music ("Do You Need A Physical Music Release?").
The physical copy itself, as much as the music, was considered an artifact. Consumers were
