Social media has had numerous impacts on society in general and has affected different cultural aspects. This study will, therefore, explore the cultural variables of human interaction and communication in regards to relationships and social media. Human interaction refers to the interaction of people in a society and in this case between couples in a relationship. Communication is an important aspect of life as it entails being able to pass information in a relationship (Boyd, 2014). Both of these variables are key players in successful relationships hence it is important to explore how social media impacts on them. Hypothesis Social media has been accused of being addictive with studies showing that people have become attached to social media to the extent of constantly being on their phones. According to Perse (2001), social media use has become so popular that even in a city with a high population of people, human interaction has been surpassed by the use of social networking sites. Social media has been used by most people to follow and keep track of others and their life activities. In a relationship, it can be used by one party to check on their exes and their activities which can have an impact on the current relationship (Chu, 2010). It can also be used to monitor and keep in touch with the current partners. It is therefore important to consider; does social media have a negative impact on relationships? Method of Study There are several ways in which the study will be conducted. This study will be done through the use of surveys, questionnaires, and interviews. Information gathering will, therefore, be done from the results and answers given on these platforms. This study will be conducted in a month’s time and will involve participants from one particular city for time efficiency. The young people are the greatest users of social media hence they would be the ideal group for use in this study. They would be chosen randomly form evaluating their social media activities. Both genders must be included in the survey in order to get conclusive feedback from different perspectives. The control group will be chosen from older couples who are not very reliant on social media. They will be chosen according to age group and their use or lack thereof of social media exposure. The results will be easy to compare especially because there will be a control group in place. The control group will be used as the mark of standard hence making work easier.
