Abstract
Gang violence is becoming more and more of a problem every day in the American
society. Each day more gang members are recruited to join gang groups either forcefully or
through persuasion. Gang violence is becoming a big problem not only to the people they kill,
but also the family members, friends and even the government due to their dealings in things like
drugs. They create fear and tension in the communities and in the streets they operate. Because
they have no sense of the human life, they continue to kill innocent civilians, destroy property in
the form of graffiti which decrease the property value in the residential estates and
neighborhoods. Gang members find violence and feel that robbing people creates more fun. In
Shelby County, Tennessee for example, there are approximately 125 gang groups with more than
6,000 known gang members. These gang groups continue to create havoc and fear in
communities and neighborhoods. One of such gangs is the Bloods formerly known as The
Bloody Family. This gang group continues to kill people, destroy property, and engage in other
criminal activities in almost all parts of the country. Because of their perceived threat to the
peace and security of the innocent civilians, gang groups have no place in the society. This paper
attempts to analyze gang violence with specific reference to the Bloods which is one of the most
dangerous gang groups operating in almost all parts of the country. The focus will be to evaluate
their motivation, their territory, racial makeups, and the criminal activities they engage in. The
paper will also attempt to recommend some initiatives that can help in eliminating this dangerous
gang group.
