History and Size








The company was founded by Sam Walton in 1962.
Sam owned a branch of the Ben Franklin stores, which he had bought from Butler
Brothers.
He opened the first Walmart Discount City store at 719 W Walnut Street in Rogers,
Arkansas, United States, in July 2 1962.
Within its first five years, the company expanded to 24 stores across Arkansas and
reached US$12.6 million in sales
It was incorporated on October 31, 1969.
As of January 31, 2018, Walmart has 11,718 stores and clubs in 28 countries,
operating under 59 different names.
The company operates under the name Walmart in the United States and Canada, as
Walmart de México y Centroamérica in Mexico and Central America, as Asda in the
United Kingdom, as the Seiyu Group in Japan, and as Best Price in India. It has wholly
owned operations in Canada, Brazil, Chile and Argentina.
