The application of philosophy in sports is in the form of sports ethics, with the team
coaches being the philosophers. As a coach, the basketball players look upon one to lead the
way and create new paths, strategies, motivation and a sense of direction (Walton, 1992).
Head coaches develop strategies and ideologies in sports ethics which help them become
effective in creating the so desired winning attitude in their players. Team culture is the
predominant form of sports ethics in NBA championships. The ultimate gift that coaches gain
from developing and implementing winning philosophies is a legacy (Walton, 1992). The
ability to ingrain a winning attitude into the players is the high road to a successful team and
a reputable legacy. These philosophies range from harnessing the importance of meditation to
paying more attention to the fundamental or core ideology in a team.
To expound on the application of philosophy in NBA championships, I will delve into
a discussion of the seven timeless championship winning philosophies in NBA’s
