1. Recall the case scenario in which Josh, the retail store supervisor, had a physical altercation
outside of the store. Later, after the company decides to give Josh a second chance, he gets in a
heated argument with a customer and hits a co-worker when the co-worker tries to de-escalate
the situation. Josh has been convicted of assault several times in the past, but the store was
unaware of these convictions as they do not conduct criminal background checks. If Josh hurts
someone on the job, the company could be liable for [two words]. ____ _____
The harm caused by Josh to a given individual and the compensation needed by that
injured person.
2. When you think about your compensation for your current job (or past job or future job if you
are not working now) -- which of these concepts matters the most to you in terms of feeling
fairly paid?
What matters most is the employee’s relative worth. As an organization’s worker, I will be
proud when my daily activities are recognized and praised by the firm’s leadership or the

towards achieving the company’s goals. In the process, the promotions and rewards offered
would be enough to feel fairly compensated.

desirable output. I find it relatively unrealistic to perceive that rewards be they intrinsic or
extrinsic do not have a significant influence on the motivational outcome of available employees.
4. Pay secrecy has long been the norm in the US (outside of union and other hourly wage
environments). There is movement within the US to move toward more pay transparency. Do
you think more transparency is good? Unnecessary? Bad? Please give one reason to support your
opinion.
More pay transparency is good for the employees since it will reduce the wage gaps and
biasness in the company. If all know everyone’s salary within the company, it will be
enough to make the executive managers cringe and they would want to know why they are
paid less compared to others, in case of satisfaction, they would strategize to stick around
and operate happily.
5. Sally, the older delivery driver who works for Jose. Jose decides to keep her on the job and
not hire his nephew, Xavier to replace her. However, he does offer Xavier a lower-paying, parttime job in the warehouse. The warehouse work is harder and less appealing than making
deliveries. The warehouse...
