The purpose of the program or project

The purpose of this program or project is to aid in conducting the elimination of delays in
discharge. It becomes an issue when bed capacity management is not well conducted, and there
are a limited number of patients that can be admitted at any one time. Increase in costs results,
the care provided is slow, and the flow of patients is affected in turn. With inefficiencies in the
systems in hospitals and children’s hospitals, in this case, admissions and transfers also
experience delays. The delays are such that they impact both the hospitals in focus and the
patients. With the upgrade of the system, it will be possible for care providers or caregivers to
work together and have a system that notifies them when a patient has been able to meet
discharge goals. This means that the patient is ready to be discharged so that they can be given
instructions on what more needs to be done away from the hospital. Other patients can be seen
while others with pressing needs can be admitted to the hospital. This saves both the patient and
hospital incremental costs and time (Litvak & Joint Commission Resources, Inc., 2010).
