For the midterm this week, choose two of the five questions below and answer them in essay format. You should reference your textbook to help you in answering these questions (look to chapters 28 and 29). - Describe the development of sculpture at the end of the nineteenth century. Use examples to support your essay. To what extent did sculpture remain conventional? What painting movements did it take into account?

Realism is described as the movement hereby individuals did reject Romanticism that
had been prevalent in the previous days. It is important to note that symbolist art did diverge
radically from Realism since it started to use objects representing various aspects. On the
other hand, it is evident that Realism would make use of actual objects to represent it. It is
due to the stated reasons that symbolism gained much popularity from the late 19th century
(Perl, 53).
Fin-de-siècle describes the end of the century and the various movements, which in
one way or the other may have started or ended with the movement. This is typically applied
to various artists of the French origin, their art, and the end of it when the century completes.
It is also important to indicate that this symbolizes the end of the culture and different traits
that might have taken place during those centuries (Perl, 55).
