A Case Study Between Two Countries
Due July 6th at 5 p.m.
When you answered the response sheet, you had already carefully read Case Study 2. Namely, Todaro
and Smith pages 96 to 101. In this homework you will create a very similar case study but with two
different countries. Follow the steps:
1. Go to the NHDI report and go to Table 1 on Page 198. Choose two countries that are ranked
similarly in-terms of the NHDI index (Not very far apart). Pick any two that you find interesting.
http://www.hdr.undp.org/sites/default/files/2016_human_development_report.pdf
2. Create your own study like the book. Each component (subtitle) should have about oneparagraph but two paragraphs at-most. Each component MUST have one or more sources
(News articles, journals, books, etc.) to back-up each argument you present. Cite your sources
in APA style just like the case study with a bibliography at the end. PLEASE CREATE SUBTITLES
BELOW IN THE ESSAY SIMILAR TO THE STUDY. BOLD THEM SO THE READER CAN SEE THEM.
a. Introduction: One or Two paragraphs talking about the two countries you chose and
why you chose them. Use at-least one source to explain your reason of choosing (2 pts)
b. Growth: Compare recent economic growth in both countries you chose in one or two
paragraphs. Which one is doing better in-terms of growth? Use one or more sources to
back-up your facts. (2 pts)
c. Poverty: One or two paragraphs with at-least one appropriate source on which country
is doing better in-terms of poverty, with statistics/studies if you can. (2 pts)
Continue with the same logic for one or two paragraphs with at-least one appropriate
source for EACH OF the remaining three components (3 – 6 paragraphs total)
d. Education and Literacy (2 pts)
e. Health (2 pts)
f. Population (2 pts)
Next, you will have to be creative. Why do you think one country is doing better than the other?
Choose two possible reasons of why this is so. In the book, the authors think that the divergence
between Bangladesh and Pakistan is due to Geography, Gender Equity, Role of Military, and Civil
Society. Find-out two reasons why your two countries are different or why one is doing better
than the other (You should find something good if you google it). Spend one or two paragraphs
on EACH reason with at-least one appropriate source.
g. Reason 1 (3 pts)
h. Reason 2 (3 pts)
Finally, add a conclusion:
i.
Conclusion (2 pts)
Your write-up should flow like an essay. Please use headers just like the textbook does. In other words,
do use a subtitle of “Introduction”, “Growth”, and so on. Bold it so the reader can see it and keep the
same order as the outline.

Aberystwyth University Finance Questions
PART 1--You are a junior executive of a new cellular phone carrier called Technologies of the Future (TOF) that competes in the same market as Verizon Wireless, AT&T, and T-Mobile. You have been tasked with providing the Committee Board members of TOF with a report that discusses issues that would be encountered by Technologies of the Future (TOF) when deciding whether to trade at a domestic level and how TOF would be affected by international trade, specialization, tariffs, and quotas. Graph the supply and demand curves in Excel using the values given in the table below and paste the graph into a Word document.PriceQuantity DemandedQuantity Supplied100110010020010002003009003004008004005007005006006006007005007008004008009003009001000200100011001001100Your graph must be properly constructed; please use a scatter graph with markers or a scatter graph with smooth lines. The graph should include a chart title, x-axis, y-axis, and contain a properly labeled equilibrium point.Draw on your graph a price ceiling and a price floor and discuss what those terms mean. Explain which government mandated price would result in a market shortage and a market surplus and why?If the price elasticity of demand is 5, and prices increase by 10%, calculate the percentage change in quantity demanded.Explain which TOF smartphones and Apple iPhones would be considered substitutes or complementary goods in terms of changes in price, and what impact a change in quantity would have.Is the cross-price elasticity of demand positive or negative, and why?Explain which TOF smartphones and phone chargers would be an example of substitutes or complementary goods.PART 2]--Reading is both a pleasurable pastime and an academic skill. To get the most out of any reading, whether it is a relaxing novel, a textbook, or a report from your employer, you must be able to read it carefully and comprehend it fully. This is called close reading. For this assignment, you will choose one passage from a piece of literature, just a couple of paragraphs, and do a close reading of it to increase your understanding and hone your abilities to get the most out of anything you read.Instructions: Read Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost. Choose a section where the writer makes the experience meaningful, striking, or revealing. Examine this section for evidence of revealing a depth that reaches beyond the poem. In 2-3 pages, address the following prompts/questions:Name three literary tools used in this piece and briefly describe how they are used. Examples are theme, tone, mood, symbolism, foreshadowing, irony, imagery. What does Frost tell us about the character at this moment? What does he leave out?How does the character communicate (through words, gestures, or other means,) and what does he/she say?How does the writer convey the character’s identity and culture? What symbols are used to communicate gender, race, class, occupation, and/or other identity categories? How does this passage relate to the human experience overall? How do you relate as a reader?PART 3--Listening to music is something everyone does. Some people listen to music constantly, while others listen to it situationally, such as when driving, studying, exercising, or relaxing. Different playlists can be made for these different tasks. But how carefully and deeply does the listening experience go? This assignment requires you to delve deeper into one of your favorite songs to maximize appreciation of it through achieving an understanding of the complexities that go into the creation of your preferred music. In doing so, you will increase your perceptual awareness, not just for music, but for all things!Instructions: Choose a musical artist (from any music era). Choose one of his or her main works (songs or compositions) and listen to the piece so that you can comment on your reaction to the work. Write a 1-2 page essay about the following:A brief summary of the background or history of the artistThe meaning of the song you choseThe musical elements being used, with examplesThe contribution that the piece has had to the development of music and how it influenced future musicYour assignment should be written in APA format and should include in-text citations and a reference page.PART 4--You are a junior executive of a new cellular phone carrier called Technologies of the Future (TOF) that competes in the same market as Verizon Wireless, AT&T, and T-Mobile. The task at hand is to graph the supply and demand curves in Excel using the values given in the table below.PriceQuantity DemandedQuantity Supplied500120020060011003007001000400800900500900800600100070070011006008001200500900130040010001400300110015002001200Import the graph into a Word document and address the following.Identify the firm's equilibrium price and quantity in the market.Calculate market shortages and market surpluses given the values from the graph based on the prices set by TOF. Be sure to define a market shortage and a market surplus.Identify and discuss the price TOF should charge for its cellular phones. From the graph derived, illustrate producer and consumer surplus. Please determine both producer and consumer surplus.

Question 1 (15 points): You have a max of 2 pages and 1/2 to answer all the questions. You maydraw your graphs by hand. In some highly concentrated industries, a single ("dominant") firm serves a majority of the market and a group of smaller ("fringe") firms supply the rest. a) (5 points) Explain what is the difference between a monopoly and a dominant firm. b) (10 points) Assume that total market demand for the oil market is given by: QD = 200 - 2P. Assume further that the non-OPEC oil producers act as a competitive fringe with a supply given by QS = ½P -12.5. The dominant firm marginal cost is given by MC = 10 + ½Q. Use the dominant firm model discussed in the recorded lecture to answer the following questions. 1. What is the minimum price needed for the competitive fringe to supply positive units of Output? 2. At what price does the competitive fringe supply output to the entire market? 3. Derive the dominant firms residual demand function. Show all the steps. 4. Derive the dominant firm's marginal revenue function. Show all the steps. 5. Show that the equilibrium price set by the dominant firm is P =$61.92 and the total market demand is Q = 76.16. 6. At the equilibrium price set by the dominant firm, how much will the competitive fringe supply to the market? Show it is Q = 18.46. 7. At the equilibrium price set by the dominant firm, how much will the dominant fifirm supply to the market? Explain. 8. Show the above answers graphically. 9 The competitive fringe reduces the market power of the dominant firm If the dominant firm wanted to try and eliminate the competitive fringe, how might the dominant accomplish this? Explain.10. If the dominant fifirm eliminates the competitive fringe, explain how this will the market and the consumers.Explain. Question 2 (20 points): Please fully explain your answer and clearly state if the statements are true or false. Points are awarded based on explanations. 1.(4 points) In a two-player game, a Nash equilibrium is the outcome that maximizes the sum of the players’ payoffffs. (you have one paragraph) 2.(4 points) In a Nash equilibrium in a two-player game, both players must have selected a dominant strategy. (you have one paragraph) 3.(4 points) Repeatedly playing the Prisoner’s Dilemma may or may not result in a cooperative solution. (you have one paragraph) 4.(4 points) In the models of oligopoly considered in the recorded lectures, the equilibrium price will be strictly lower if there are n + 1 fifirms than if there are n fifirms. (you have one paragraph) 5.(4 points) In the models of oligopoly considered in the recorded lectures, consumers are no better offff than in a perfectly competitive market. (you have one paragraph)

Saint Leo University US Dollar and Stock Market Interdependencies Discussion
As is often seen during a recession in the U.S., some domestic businesses profit from a falling dollar. Your text mentions various factors that influence the value of a currency. Consider the effect of perceptions of economic stability. As the U.S. economy weakens, foreign investors demand less dollars. How does the lower demand for U.S. dollars affect the value of the U.S. dollar, and consequently, is this good or bad for U.S. businesses looking to sell abroad?Discuss another real-world example of how changing currency values have affected people’s daily lives.Provide ref
