Description

The purpose of this project is to help you with the final gathering of resources for the writing and documentation of your Capstone Project. You must have a minimum of at least 20 different resources for the Capstone Project. Resources may be gleaned from class notes, textbooks, trade books, magazine articles, and the Bible.

You will complete a formal writing project and a PowerPoint presentation entitled, “What is The Role of the Worship Leader?” This is a narrative articulating the “16 Roles of the Worship Leader” discussed during our time together in this course. Here is the setting for this assignment:

Imagine you have been given the responsibility of chairing the search committee for a new worship leader at a very large church with a comprehensive worship ministry. The pastor has asked you to make a 30–35-minute PowerPoint presentation to the search committee during your first meeting together. For this presentation, you are to answer the question: What is the role of the worship leader? The pastor has asked you to include the following areas of responsibility for the worship leader: Worshiper, Disciple, Theologian, Evangelist, Professional, Artist, Musician, Servant Leader, Pastor, Staff, Administrator, Producer, Teacher, Mentor, Counselor, and Family Person.

You must prepare for the committee an 18–20-page paper articulating this responsibility. Make sure to elaborate on and explain each of the 16 areas and then make application to the local church ministry. In addition to these 16 areas of responsibility, the paper must have a 1–2 paragraph introduction of the church’s need for a worship pastor and a 1–2-page conclusion to help wrap up your rationale for the need of a worship pastor. (The title page, table of contents, bibliography, and appendix are in addition to the 18–20-page requirement).

To answer the question completely and thoroughly, you must use resources such as class notes, textbooks, trade books, and the Bible. You must not seek help from your classmates on any level. You will need to present this Capstone Project in current Turabian format; complete with footnotes and a bibliography. You may use quotes from your class notes, but you must demonstrate thoughtful presentation, thorough research, and personal application.

Introduction
Worship leaders are concerned with orchestrating the different songs and offer leadership
to the other team members to oversee that the worship process is a success. The worship leader
takes the primary responsibility of ensuring that church members are prepared for the word of God.
Worship is a means of approaching God before the message. This is usually done before a preacher
is ready to deliver the word of God. In this postmodern world, church leaders have gone an extra
mile of incorporating advanced technology in the church services. It is true that the major changes
in worship, especially the issue of incorporating technology has resulted in increased attendance
for church services. Therefore, with regards to the increased attendance, church members have
integrated extra services, blended the different musical styles to make worship easier. Above all
the most important fact is that the roles of the worship leader do not change. There is a traditional
worship program especially during the 1960s, but on the other hand, churches have not considered
this as there are changes that have been incorporated inside the church especially with regards to
worship. Worship, therefore, is something that should integrate diversity in its process, and the
major way to do so is to make sure that churches do not hold on to traditional cultures which are
rigid and does not welcome diverse individuals who might be great worshipers. The objective of
this paper is to demonstrate the roles of worship leader and make plausible judgments of the
requirements that need to be integrated by the worship leader.
Roles of a Worship Leader
First and foremost a worship leader should be in a better position to amplify and exhibit a
culture that is unique to where one is. For instance, in a particular church, people might be well in
singing with high notes full of passion. However, as a worship leader, this might not work
especially when in a church that has over 50 people who are aged. Therefore this means that a

3
worship leader should be able to adopt the changes for the worship to be a success. Additionally,
there is a concern where worship leaders will only be required if only they are willing to adhere to
the traditional culture of the church strictly and to adopt to their forms of worship1. However, in
order for the worship leader to accomplish a culture that is unique to where one is, then it is
essential to understand that the church needs to incorporate, a worship that is culturally associative,
a worship that is open to all, that is everyone can engage in the worship and a worship that
encourages cultural partnership2. Many of the Episcopal churches, expect newcomers especially
those who are great worshipers to learn the exact way of worship and demonstrate the qualities
during worship time. This fact is usually stimulated by the theological assertions that must be
present during worship. Consequently, there are wrong ideas for excellence in the ministry which
are ironically built based on assumptions and this might as well affect proper worship.
Additionally, the ridiculous assumptions fall short of the fact that a countercultural call of
the gospel, often sends the idea that true worship takes the path that does not follow the most
popular trend. Therefore the worshiper should be prepared to influence the church to take a path
of sameness and not unified diversity.
The second role of the worship leader is approaching God. Worship leader through
integrating the biblical content with music, he/she is capable of leading people towards the
presence of the mighty God. In approaching God, the musical content, for example, should have
the content of the majesty of God. In this way, the congregation will be able to realize the presence

of God, and they will be prepared for the same. According to Genesis Chapter 1:2, in the beginning,
God was moving like a holy spirit, and although the earth was void and static, God was busy. This
means that God did not wait for any administrative permission to undertake his roles. While we
cannot see the spirit but we can feel the presence of God. Therefore through integrating the content
of the majesty of God, during worship, it is evident that the congregation will be able to feel the
presence of the Lord3. The worship leader should have a complete mastery of how to use music to
signify the majesty of God and to lift him up. Exodus 3:1-4:23, describes the burning bush and
how Moses approached the burning bush, which was the presence of God.
Moses had to remove his shoes, signifying the holiness of the load. During worship, one
should understand this fact and through the understanding of this fact it will be possible to dedicate
worship that helps separate earthly things of human beings when approaching God. Through
proper approach and integrating the fact that individuals can understand the worth of the almighty
God, therefore, proper worship is not all about singing, but on the other hand, it is about showing
the worth of the almighty God. Many people have the feeling that there are many irrelevant things
that many churches consider that does not relate to worship.4 Therefore, appropriate worship is not
all about singing, but on the other hand it is about showing the worth of the almighty God. Many

people have the feeling that there are many irrelevant things that many churches consider that does
not relate to worship.
The worship leader should lead with a life example. The roles of the worship leader do not
start on every Sunday morning or rather when he/she is prepared to meet the congregations. The
roles begin when the worship leader has already dedicated his/her life to serving Jesus5.
Therefore the worship leader should ...
