ABSTRACT
Black Like Me is a 1964 American movie based on the book with the same name written
by John Howard Griffin. The film talks about a white man who disguises himself to pass as a
black man in the South. In the film, a white journalist pretends to be an African-American man
and goes to the Deep South to experience first-hand the challenges black people are subjected to
in the segregated society. Carl and Gerda Lerner wrote the movie Black Like Me and was
directed by Carl Lerner. The movie stars Sorrell Booke, James Whitmore, and Roscoe Lee
Browne. In the film, John Finley is a white journalist who uses makeup to darken his skin to
pass for an African-American man. Finley travels in the Deep South to report on the challenges
and issues black people experience in the segregated community.

implemented in the South. Therefore, the film Black Like Me was significantly influenced by the
issue of racial discrimination.

human beings at their worst and their best and portrays real-life scenarios and events. Typically,
a docu-drama film is a dramatized movie based on real events. In the film Black Like Me, the
events portrayed are real events that occurred in the 1960s. As previously stated, America in the
early and mid-20th century was racially-driven. In other words, people ...
