Description

For the Final Project, you will demonstrate your understanding of the material in this course by developing a classroom plan for either an infant/toddler childcare facility or for a preschool classroom, based on Piaget’s Stage Theory.

For this project, include:

a. Summarize Piaget’s Stage Theory in your own words.

b. Identify and describe the developmental characteristics of the selected age group.

c. Design and describe the physical layout of facility or classroom that aligns with Piaget’s Stage Theory. Use evidence from the text or other scholarly resources when describing your layout. (You may use a software application that provides graphic layouts like Classroom Architect (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site., or create your layout in a word document.)

d. Create one activity for each developmental domain. Make sure to include a detailed description with a step-by-step procedure that includes required materials (i.e. clay, puzzles, etc.). Discuss how each of these activities maximizes development and align to Piaget’s Stage Theory.

Writing the Final Project

This Final Project must be eight to ten double-spaced pages in length, in addition to the title and reference pages. Your project should be written in APA format as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center, and include at least three scholarly resources in addition to the course text.

The Final Project:

a. Must include a title page with the following:

  • Title of paper
  • Student’s name
  • Course name and number
  • Instructor’s name
  • Date submitted

b. Must begin with an introductory paragraph that has a succinct thesis statement.

c. Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought.

d. Must end with a conclusion that reaffirms your thesis.

e. Must include a separate reference page with at least three scholarly resources in addition to the textbook, formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

Carefully review the Grading Rubric (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. for the criteria that will be used to evaluate your assignment.

A Classroom Plan for toddler childcare facility

Classroom planning is an important part of the educating process and behavior
management. A Proper classroom plan is beneficial to the educator as well as the students as the
learning process becomes organized and interesting. Such an environment results in maximum
productivity from both the child and the educator, while the children find class designs,
motivating, teachers can channel their energy to teaching and less time rearranging the children.
Modern learning environments tend to emphasize the importance of classroom layouts as space
utilization matters in learning especially when children are involved. The furniture layout affects
the children’s academic performance and behavior. Every theory that supports the usefulness of a
classroom plan notes the importance of a class-design as a factor in how children learn (Simatwa,
2010). Classroom plan is, therefore, a necessity in toddler childcare facility as supported by the

Piaget’s Stage Theory.
Piaget’s Stage Theory

The theory states that every aspect in a classroom has an impact on the academic
performance and behavior of children learners. These aspects include the size of the room, of
furniture type, wall colors, lighting, and the general layout as a determinant of children learning
patterns and capabilities. If the classroom is overstimulating, carelessly arranged or has a busy
look, the children are likely to be destructed by one of the many things in the room. This does
not mean that the teacher has to make a classroom look like a deserted place; too much plainness
tends to shut down the little learner’s enthusiasm.

The primary aim of this theory is to extensively explain the steps and processes by which
a baby grows into an individual who can reason and think by applying observed and

experimented hypotheses. Piaget argues that cognitive development involves a progressive
mental processing change. That a toddler’s mental capability and reasoning is a result of the
many environmental experiences and a natural biological maturation. It is evident that children
learn from their environment so their behaviors are a combination of the lessons witnessed in
their surroundings. What they know can be easily replaced by a new lesson since their young
brains are flexible to new lessons.

Piaget classifies child learning into several sub-actions like schemas, Adaptation
processes, and cognitive development. The first stage is accumulating the building blocks of
knowledge also known as schemas. These are the usual mental models of the world that we have
not seen but hope to reach their someday (Simatwa, 2010). These imaginary worlds become the
motivating factor and decision influencer, an exact case that happens even in children. Schemas
