Treatment Theory

The psychosocial analysis of Eliza identified that the patient was suffering from several
psychological as well as emotional complications. Based on DSM-V, Eliza can be diagnosed
with mild depressive disorder and Substance use disorder. In this regard, it was appropriate for
her to go through professional counseling, as this would enable her recover her psychosocial
stability, in addition to overcoming some of the major challenges that she faced in life. It would
be appropriate to engage theoretical practices in the counseling sessions in order to ensure
achievement of top quality results from the counseling sessions, in addition to enabling the client
to recover completely from her psychological complications (Kohen et al., 2000). In this
particular case of Eliza, I would use the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) theory in
counseling my client, drawing on its strengths to enable me assist the client overcome her
traumas and insecurities, thereby becoming a strong willed and emotionally stable young
woman.
The choice of the CBT theory as the treatment theory is largely informed by the case
under investigation, as well as the specific attributes present in the therapy. In essence, CBT is a
talking therapy used to enable individuals to manage their specific problems and challenges by
transforming their thoughts and behaviors. As such, it is commonly used in the treatment of both
depression and anxiety among psychologically challenged persons, in addition to being
exemplary in the handling of other mental and physical health problems (Kendall, 2011). The
problems that Eliza is facing range from emotional, to mental, to physical, and psychological.
Therefore, the choice of the CBT theory as her treatment theory is well guided and guarantees
high quality results from the counseling therapy, especially considering the fact it covers most of
the complications that the patient is suffering from.

Addressing Mental Health Issues Exhibited by the Client
Mental health issues require both mental as well as psychological interventions in order
to address properly. In this case concerning Eliza, the assessment confirmed that she did not
entirely exhibit a serious mental complication warranting a full scale mental health attention. On
the contrary, she only exhibited a few mental issues that would be best solved through
appropriate mental health counseling (Pavuluri et al., 2004). As such, the counselor would apply
the selected theoretical treatment plans to address the specific mental health issues identified in
Eliza’s health plan. Of particular importance is the use of the cognitive behavioral theory in
addressing the stress and anxiety issues identified in the client during the assessment process. As
such, the approach would be instrumental in enabling the client overcome his individual
complications.
Addressing Medical Issues Exhibited by the Client
Medical issues require medical interventions in order to be addressed properly. This is
especially considering the fact that medical issues come in different natures. As such,
identification of the specific medical complication that the patient is suffering from is the first
best step in treating the patient of his or her medical complication (Cohen et al., 2000). The
assessment did not identify any specific medical complication that the patient was suffering
from, except for stress and insomnia during certain conditions. In this case, it would be best to
address these medical complications by providing the client with medicines for use during these
specific conditions alone. For instance, the doctors could prescribe her with insomnia d...
