Stress is regarded as a common factor in our society today. Its manifestation, however, is
determined by a number of several lifestyle factors for every individual. For example, school and
university students may experience exam stress while employees of an organization may
experience deadline stress with set targets they are expected to meet. The highest levels of stress
are found among those individuals who play the role of authority figures. This includes the
members of the police force in this case. With the dangers that the police officers face in their
line of work as well as the administrative burden laid upon them to protect the public, it is
justifiable to say that stress has become a common problem in the police force. This should,
therefore, inspire professionals to come up with programs that the police can undertake to reduce
the levels of stress in order to deliver their services efficiently to the public.
There are several sources of police stress that are unavoidable when the officers are on
duty. Police officers find themselves in constant exposure to individuals suffering pain and
distress. Such individuals may be either criminals or victims of criminal acts. By spending most
of their time with such individuals, the police officers are likely to be affected emotionally and
