Description

See attached document to help with this section.

Online and hybrid courses can be designed using several different models or schemas. In this section of the Course Proposal, address the following points:

  • Course design model: Describe the model you have chosen for this course. Support your decision and explain how this model fits your content area, delivery mode, and potential learners. (Model samples: thematic, chronological, by different books, or by the chapters within one book, linear design, branched design, hyper content design, learner-directed design, etc.).
  • Course introduction: Introduce your course to potential learners. Include a short description of the content, organization, and expectations.

Be sure to support your proposal with sources from the course and your own research. The Library is a good place to find reliable, scholarly resources. Please cite and reference all sources used according to APA (6th ed.) style.

Running head: ONLINE COURSE PROPOSAL 1 Course Title: English 102 - American Literature The course explains most of the American literature beginning with the oral tradition of the Native Americans to the literature of the contemporary period. It helps individuals get an indepth understanding of the relationship between American literature and literary techniques. The course helps students understand the different fields of literature and learn about the important people that helped shape up American literature how it is known in the modern day. Some of the topics that American Literature covers are short stories, poetry, and dramas. American Literature helps one identify many works of literature like poetries and short stories that have been in existence in America from the pre-colonial, the colonial, and the post-colonial period (Thaler, 2016). The course is widespread, and someone can transfer his or her credits to more than 2000 colleges and universities. It shows how critical the course is in the field of learning and understanding Literature. The National College Credit Recommendation Service (NCCRS) and the American Council on Education (ACE) have approved this course. The total points that a student can score in the class are 300 points and an aggregate of 70% is needed for one to pass to the next level. The course is recommended for undergraduate students and needs three semester hours in order for teachers to cover all the aspects of the course and for students to be able to have a full understanding of all the materials. The main curricular area of the course includes the colonial and early national period in literature, the romantic period in literature, dark romanticism, transcendentalism, realism, the Harlem Renaissance and Literature, and finally Literature in the contemporary period (Writers, 2018). The course is recommended for the first years of studies in the literature. It is essential to know American literature before exploring other types of literature around the world. Also, by this point of the educational level, a person should know what literature is, different types of literature, and the forms of the literature review. Therefore, the next level would be exploring the history of literature and the best foundation is American Literature. References Li, C. S., & Irby, B. (2008). Institution: University of California-Irvine I have selected as my institution, the University of California-Irvine. The University of California-Irvine was founded in 1965 and is among the latest prestigious association of United States Universities. The institution is known due to its excellent reputation in premier research, ONLINE COURSE PROPOSAL 2 academic achievements, and of course, their Anteater mascot. The location of the university offers a safe and conducive environment for learning and social development for all students. The institution takes Literature studies seriously, and thorough research is done by the instructors to ensure they provide all the necessary information needed. The aim of dividing the course into four categories is to provide the students the opportunity to understand what the course brings as a whole as well as the different curriculum areas. This is an example of why the University performs well regarding academic achievement. It does not only provide an environment that encourages studies but also offers lessons that ensure students grasp what each course has to offer. Therefore, I believe that the University of California - Irvine is the best place to study American Literature. Course Type: Online Due to changes in technology and teaching strategies, there are a variety of ways that a course can be taught whether is using technology or face to face lessons. There are courses that a person takes online and will learn more from those courses than the ones they take face to face and the same happens vice-versa. An excellent example of a class that anyone can benefit most from when he or she decides to take an online course is English 102. In this century, online learning has been one of the popular systems used in higher education. The reason that online education has been on the rise in recent years is that it provides several benefits for both the students and teachers. Online learning is one of the popular systems used in higher education. Evidence has shown that it's just as effective as face-to-face learning thereby doing away with those that doubted the online system. Its improving reputation has encouraged more students to enroll in fully online courses. Budget wise this system does not require as much money as for the face-to-face systems. It is also easy to run with a few numbers of personnel. The increased accessibility of the internet and the World Wide Web has created a lot of opportunities for non-traditional education through this method (Li et al., 2008). Our world is changing fast due to the constant technological developments that were not there during the traditional classroom era. Nowadays, students constantly huddle around the internet on a regular basis. As a faculty member, I believe meeting students in their favorite ground may assist them in improving their academics. The face-to-face education system is still a good choice, but the ONLINE COURSE PROPOSAL 3 online system is being used to supplement the day to day lectures. Incorporating online learning systems in our institution is going to benefit our curriculum a great deal. Many young students, especially at the college level, are addicted to technological devices like cell phones and laptops. They spent most of their time on social media platforms and researching different subjects. Therefore, since the young generation is very aware of how online platforms work, they will find it easy to find material they need to revise for their exams. Additionally, there are online sites that are rich in information that relates to American Literature and it will help the students to expand their knowledge in addition to the lessons they received from the online course. It will avoid the tiresome situations that many young generations hate of attending the library. They will get a more in-depth understanding of the course since they will relate the information they find to course material and some materials are broken down in a way that it is easy to understand. Students will get a chance to interact and ask the instructor via email anything they do not understand (Writers, 2018). Online courses also cost less than scheduled courses. In addition, students can study while they are in their homes and they do not have to worry about paying for a place to live or for food. I believe the online learning systems can assist better with dealing with each student individually. For some students, it's hard for them to approach an instructor if they are having some difficulty, but once online it simplifies this. The students can come to me with their problems and therefore I will be able assist them personally. When students have nothing to fear and can interact with their instructor, it improves the relationship between the two, and this makes for the student’s grades to improve among other things. Most importantly, one can plan or change strategies to help students understand the course better. Therefore, there is a high chance that students will get better grades with this type of approach than a face to face course. References ONLINE COURSE PROPOSAL Li, C. S., & Irby, B. (2008).
