1. Describe a religious movement in the 19th century and characteristics about a
significant reformer or author during this period.
Several religious movements shaped peoples ways of life in the nineteenth century. In the
Americas in general and the United States in particular, the second great reawakening
made tremendous inroads in instigating tremendous changes in people’s perception of
Christianity and lifestyles. For the sake of the brief discussion in this paper, I will tackle
the impact of the Christian philosophy of Charles Grandison Finney(1792-1875). The
second reawakening was a period of tremendous changes in the Christian way of life.
Finney was an experienced lawyer and a theologian in the Presbyterian Church who
radically brought about changes in the way the entire Presbyterian church conducted its
affairs. It is quite evident that the Presbyterians’ emanated from the Protestant movement
which deviated from the dogma of the Roman Catholic. The early church was by and
large predominantly patriarchal and women were given superficially subordinate roles in
