Appalachia Poverty
Appalachia is an underdeveloped county which is situated in the mountainous terrain and no
railroad has ever been built in this rural area (Strickland, 2016). People here almost didn’t finish
schooling and had been working at such a young age to support the family. There are limited
opportunities and workers earn just a minimal income. Others seek work from other states like
Indiana and in Ohio. This paper would like to establish the significance of culture in relation to
the socio-economic status in Appalachia.
In an article posted by Davis (2017), he discussed the Appalachian poverty as explained based
on the stories without delving deeper into the issues that caused it which was said to be
mistakenly pointing the condition to culture. Davis (2017) included in his post the study made by
