Description

Part 1

Word document of 4–5 pages

You have learned many of the basic elements of a chemical dependency center in today’s world. Now it is time to write a report that will be used in a final proposal for a new treatment center. Consider what you have already learned, and continue your research about addiction and recovery theories, services, and continuum of care to design the most effective treatment center possible. Based on current issues that you have learned about, consider the changes you believe could be made to improve this evolving system.

Start with some of the following questions:

  • What do you think the future best practices might look like?
  • How might you care for the professionals in a field while they are caring for their clients?
  • What kind of professional development will the staff need to make this center a success? How might this improve services to those in need?

Given what you know and what your group discovered and discussed about modern treatment facilities, use your imagination to come up with a futuristic model of an addiction and recovery services center. Be sure to address the following information in a proposal of 4–5 pages:

Objective

  • Type of facility
  • Need for the facility
  • Purpose of the facility
  • Current issues or challenges the facility is designed to address
  • Mission statement of the facility
  • Philosophy or theories practiced within the facility

Logistics

  • Populations to be served by the facility
  • Treatments used in the facility
  • Physical appearance of the facility
  • Type of staff
  • Professional development that will be available to staff
  • Additional important details

PART 2B: ETHICS

ETHICAL SITUATIONS
Ethical and legal issues encountered in group counseling require a team of professional
and qualified therapists who can provide the solution acceptable by putting into action the
respective code of conduct.
Conflicts of cultural values are one issue that needs a lot of commitment to be dealt with
in group counseling. The group leaders need to observe all the social and cultural moral values of
each member of the group and support every culture and religion of all the members without
showing any aspect of biases(SAIT, 2015). The vulnerable groups should be treated with special
and professional care so that they can realize their importance and well-being in the society. A
case example is the individuals living with HIV/AIDS and encounter isolation and stigma from
the society members. They need to be counseled on the ways to withstand such inhuman
behavior so that they feel involved in the society socio-economic activities.
Confrontation from the group members is also another issue that should be handled
professionally by the group leaders. Some members of the group may have a feeling that the
group leaders are not doing well enough to support the growth and welfares of the group to
achieve the set goals; therefore, they may approach their leaders in an unprofessional manner.
The therapists, being qualified, should apply the code of ethics to handle such cases and provide
the way forward for the group as whole and potential actions to subject to culprits.
Misuse of power by the group leaders is an issue that requires an upright approach, not
just to subjects but also to any party interested in providing an ultimate solution to the challenge.
Some leaders develop immoral behavior and deflect from the right way to engage in unprincipled
issues contrary to the group's codes of operation. The resultant is oppression of the group

members which leads to withdrawal of some members. The group leaders should, therefore,
apply the proper ethical codes, at or outside the group sessions to overcome the ethical issues and
provide a lasting solution in case they occur. In failure to avoid the ethical problems, leaders
have the responsibility to bring the matter before team members for a joint resolution and accept
to account for the misconduct rather than engaging in word exchange.
Understandings of the ethical and legal violations by the clients enable them to develop
upright ways of conducting oneself and dealing with such offenses in case they occur by
reviewing the causes and reaching out for long-lasting solutions(Films Media Group, & Video Arts
(Firm), 2016). It's also vital for me as a group leader to understand such violations so that I can

conduct my roles professionally to avoid the potential occurrence of such violations.
In conclusion, the effectiveness of group therapy primarily relies on the set of the ethical
codes put in action to coordinate the welfares of the clients. Any form of violation needs a
professional approach and self-commitment to provide the ultimate solution. Both group leaders
and members have the obligation of ensuring that moral values of everyone are observed both
inside and outside group sessions.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Chemical dependency is a medical term that is used to refer to drug and substance abuse.
The abuse goes on even after the addiction signs have been noted. Due to increased cases of
chemical dependence globally, several measures have been put forward to provide a solution to
this matter. A rehabilitation center will be started to accommodate the victims and facilitate their
recovery to the healthy life. The most commonly abused drugs are; marijuana, alcohol, cocaine,
heroin, inhalants as well as the medicine for a prescription.
A rehabilitation center has been proposed to be constructed so that the chemical
dependent individuals would be accommodated as they will be getting recovery measures. The
center will enable the dru...
